This beautiful collection of modern kitchen appliances was a long time in the making. I first met Richard Hoare, Head Designer from Breville at a wedding and I pitched him this idea of doing a range of appliances covered with Indigenous art as a way of sharing Aboriginal stories with the world. 16 years later we launched the Breville Aboriginal Culinary Journey range.
We worked with Western Desert artists and members of the original Pintupi Nine, Yalti Napangati, Yukultji Napangati, Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri and Sydney-based artist and Yuwaalaraay woman Lucy Simpson and created a limited series of six Breville products that are now sold in London, New York and Paris.
And best of all, 100% profits go towards a range of projects that create opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
Architecture AU ran this story in May 2022:
I acknowledge the Gumbaynggirr people on whose land I live and work.
Sovereignty was never ceded.
